A Sunflower and Navy Kansas Wedding
We celebrated the marriage of Megan and Ashton on the beautiful campus of Bethel College in Newton, Kansas. I’ve known this sweet girl since she was a tiny little three-year-old sitting in a blue, preschool-sized chair, coloring pictures and gluing macaroni to construction paper in my Vacation Bible School class! That was no more than 5 years ago, right!? Time really does fly by!!
The ceremony took place inside of the chapel in the Administration building built in 1887. All of the details, from the limestone building to the brightly colored stained-glass windows in the chapel, added the perfect touch of historic elegance to the day! Megan chose a stunning color theme of bright, sunflower yellows and deep navy blues. Be sure to check out her Maid of Honor’s bouquet made entirely out of sunflowers. So simple and stunning at the same time!
Their ceremony included a handfasting ceremony, where the couple actually “ties the knot.” Megan and Ashton each held cord, woven together with colors representing their own personal traits. They then tied the cords together around their hands to symbolize the unity of marriage. Thus the phrase, “tying the knot.” After the ceremony, guests made their way to the reception area, another historic building on the Bethel campus. I love how so many people came together to make this special day happen! Megan and Ashton’s families worked many late nights and early mornings making sure every detail was perfect.
One of my favorite stories was hearing how a family member added extra beads and details to Megan’s dress–this was the same dress Megan’s mother wore at her wedding!! They had a table set up during the reception that held photographs of family members. I loved listening to Megan point out all the people in the photos. Standing in the center of the table was a photo of Megan’s mom and dad during their wedding ceremony. Tears filled my eyes as she picked it up, holding it in both hands, looking into the past and the future at the same time. Her mom would be so proud of the woman she is today! Megan and Ashton, thanks for letting us capture your day and celebrate the beginning of your life together!! We wish you many blessings in the years to come.
