My first quarantine quilt is finished!!! Actually, this is my very first quilt and only the third sewing project I’ve ever completed 🙂 I bought my first sewing machine a few weeks ago (April 9th, 2020!) to start sewing masks, then began reading quilting blogs, following quilters on Instagram, and falling in love with all the beautiful quilt fabrics! Thanks to the incredibly fast shipping from Lady Belle Fabric and encouragement from my friend Renee, a couple of weeks later my first quilt was finished!
I haven’t written about it or shared photos until now because I’ve been busy finishing my second throw-size quilt, a small wall hanging quilt, and planned and purchased fabric for my next 2 quilts!!! Trust me, I’m more surprised than anyone…I never thought I could even sew a straight line. But this is so much fun!!
Even though I still can’t believe this is happening (or that I’m actually making usable things!!), I’m reminded of why we create. We were all created by God, and to be made in his image means that we are creators as well. The slower pace of life during this “global pause” the past few weeks has allowed many of us to explore the creativity that has always been there but didn’t have the space to be realized in the midst of all our busyness. One thing I hope does not return to “normal” is the space for all of us to lean into our creativity, to explore who God made us to be and ask him what he wants to create through us. Perhaps we’ll all be surprised at what new things emerge!
