    Connection During Social Distancing

How do we stay connected during this time of social distancing?

Think of it as physical distancing instead of social distancing 🙂 We need each other more than ever these days, so here are a few ways to reach out and stay connected.

Without technology (or with basic technology)

Write a letter. Send a handwritten letter through the mail. You may even want to tape a note to your mailbox thanking the postal worker for doing his or her job in this time and let them know you are praying for them.

Make a phone call. Think of people who are quarantined alone without the opportunity to talk with others during the day. You may never know how much your call could bless them. Or pick up the phone and call someone you usually only text. Hearing your voice provides another layer of connection.

Porch visit. Schedule a time to visit a friend, neighbor, or grandparent’s house, but stay outside and talk on the phone while they stand on the other side of the window or door. Get creative. I have seen people playing tic-tac-toe on the windows, celebrating birthday parties with music and dancing (6 feet away!), car parades, etc.

    With technology

Marco Polo App. This one is new for us, but a lot of fun! It’s like FaceTime, but messages can be recorded and viewed later by friends. Sort of like a video voicemail.

Virtual online meetings. Connect with friends or family virtually through your computer or device. You guys are probably more familiar than I am with the many apps available for this. Zoom, UberConference, Skype, Google Meet, etc.

Online Bible Studies. LifeWay ministries has made several of their online Bible studies available for no charge through June. You’ll need to create an account and login to view them, but go ahead and invite others to join you in watching the video lessons, then discuss what you learned! http://onlinestudy.smallgroup.com/
